    hi coach, why do you teach the player to open step instead of cross step off the rip?

    • @julzallender
      @julzallender 4 дні тому

      Hi @peteh.5266 this is a great question. They can be taught with either foot it will depend on which foot is your pivot foot and which direction you are wanting to go. Cross step is great to use also.

    I know this is 12 years old now, but I've watched a few videos this week and this has been the best one. Simple and easy to follow instructions and explanations. I can shoot pretty good because I played like crazy as a kid. It's been 20 years since I've shot any hoops, but my 8yo daughter wanted to start playing basketball, so we've been going to the Y. I got right back into the rhythm of things and my skills are pretty darned on point for a 41yo dude who hasn't picked up a basketball in forever. Keeping in shape with various other sports and activities I'm sure helped. But i didnt really know how to teach the mechanics of shooting. This video broke down the mechanics awesomely. Other videos showed me how to teach the kiddo basic drills and stuff. We watched this video together right before going to the Y tonight, and she walked onto the court and made two shots in a row! Then she continued to be far better than shenhas the last few nights. She was pumped! Thank you nice blonde lady! I hope you're doing well nowadays.

    I noticed on the pound to shot pocket one would dribble and pound and go straight up with it while the other would durable and crossover pound and then and then go up with shot, does it matter??

    Wow the video was great. I have just started my job as a assistent coach and I can wait to add these info to all of my kids 💪 Do you have any tips/ drills for teaching youngsters proper defensive position and steps. The things I see most often is when I ask the to bent their knees and get low, they all forget to have straighy back 🫣

    • @julzallender
      @julzallender 7 місяців тому

      Thank you! My advice on teaching young kids how to play defense would probably be more about positioning with help defense, moving when the ball moves or your player moves. In regards to guarding the basketball I would focus on staying in front and moving your feet. Concepts at an early age are going to do more for them than technique. Once they understand the concepts I'd get into technique, but do realize every player moves differently and don't get stuck in everyone has to be in a specific position.

    • @tadeusztarach5543
      @tadeusztarach5543 7 місяців тому

      @@julzallender so if the early stage is more like for concept of the defense rather then the technique @ what age U would start to teach them the proper position etc. I got boys at age from 8 to 10 and 12-14. Sometimes I think the younger boys are more susceptible to learning the technique than older ones.

    • @julzallender
      @julzallender 7 місяців тому

      @@tadeusztarach5543 for me I would more focus on technique slowly once they really grasp concepts.
